There’s not much laughter at the New Year celebrations in Washington this year – six weeks after John Kennedy’s murder nobody feels like letting their hair down. That much is true of Harry Jensen, a White House analyst who has seen his political dreams go up in smoke.
So when George Hammond, a disillusioned CIA veteran, buttonholes him in the small hours with sensational intelligence about the assassination, Jensen is prepared to listen. At the same party Jensen comes face to face with his bewitching ex-wife, Jill. She too is devastated by the death of the President for she used to be his mistress. Her need to discover what really happened awakens old loyalties in Harry that he knows he can’t ignore.
Then comes news of Hammond’s “accidental” death and Jensen knows he must do something with the information that he alone now holds. Inspired by Jill, Jensen sets out to conduct his own investigation into the assassination.
